Jenson Button had a blast at Bavaria City Racing. Did you?

04/06/2012 11:05 am

So the weather Gods didn’t quite do their job, but Bavaria City Racing was still a hell of a show in Dublin yesterday. Jenson Button certainly enjoyed it. Did you?

Hundreds of thousands of spectators braved the elements and took to the streets of the capital for the motorsport extravaganza featuring one of the biggest names in Formula One along with the best that the worlds of WRC, Drifters, Touring Cars and a whole lot more had to offer.

There was no doubting that Button was the star attraction on a day that the crowds were wowed for a full five hours and even though the heavens remained open for the majority of the day, the McLaren driver certainly had a blast.

"The main thing for us was putting on a show, so the weather didn't really make much of a difference," Button is quoted as saying in the Irish Independent.

"These events are great because for us, over a Grand Prix weekend, obviously we're fully focused on the job in hand. But when we come to this sort of event, we can relax and have a little bit of fun with the car," he added.

Button certainly didn’t disappoint the home crowds yesterday, nor did anyone else amongst the stellar cast of performers – including plenty of home grown talent – at what was an incredibly successful event.

So did you go along for the ride? Feel free to tell us the highlight of your day in the comment box below.

The on-track action was good, but there were an awful lot of disappointed punters in the Paddock area. The view from the grandstand there was poor as it was built too high and too close to the track. Most of the cars passed by directly below the stand, making them almost impossible to see for anyone more than three rows back. Despite being advertised on the Bavaria City Racing web site as part of the attraction, there was no way to see the F1 mechanics prepare the car for the track and, despite the hefty admission price, we were not allowed in to three of the five areas in the Paddock. A great spectacle perhaps, but a rip-off for many.
