We’re approaching the August bank holiday and that mysterious entity – the summer – is still as elusive as ever. Finding it in Electric Ireland’s new TV ad could bag you a €4000 home makeover prize.

The competition is over at Electric Ireland’s Facebook page and it’ll take about two minutes of your time. Two minutes = €4000? That’s a decent ratio in any man’s language.

The ambitiousness of the Facebook app’s opening gambit of “Summer! It's here, and it's now!” is not the only thing we marvelled at – trying to find the sun in the new TV ad is a nicely imaginative piece of marketing.

This app imitates life in an Irish summer, because as soon as you see the sun you’ve got to move quickly to take advantage of it. A timely mouse-click later and you’ll get the secret code necessary to enter the competition.

The prizes are tasty – that €4000 is divided into €2000 of Electric Ireland Home Services energy-saving products (we have reviews of several of them over here), a €1500 DIY voucher and €500 to spend on garden stuff at Electric Ireland’s online store, as well as a free interior decorator consultation.
