Quick Energy Tip No 9: Replace your old boiler and save

29/06/2012 11:00 am

If you're looking to make some easy savings on your heating bill then why not get your old boiler replaced for a newer, more efficient one? Here's why you should.

Did you know that your old boiler could be wasting precious energy and money? Old gas and oil boilers need a lot more energy in order to run compared with newer more efficient boilers. This sees a large portion of the heat being lost up the flue/chimney.

Newer models have the ability to capture a lot more heat, which could potentially see you saving a cosy 20 per cent on your annual heating bill. Just think what you could do with all that spare cash.

If your boiler is getting on in life and if it’s seen better days then its efficiency could be as low as 60 per cent. That means 40 per cent of the work that it does is pretty much for nothing.

However, you can increase that efficiency to 90 per cent by installing a new high-efficiency condensing boiler with Electric Ireland. The trick with these new condensing boilers is that they use fuel more efficiently so you will see much less of it escaping through the cracks.

Better yet, when the lads at Electric Ireland come out to install your new boiler, you may even find that you can comfortably install a smaller boiler. But why would you want a smaller boiler? Bigger is better, no? Well, although they’re smaller in size, they actually reduce your fuel bills without reducing any of the heat in your house. Also, if you get the work done with Electric Ireland before the end of July you'll can avail of a further 10 per cent saving.

Make sure you don’t go wasting heat and energy before it even enters your house, so with that in mind, out with the old and in with the new more energy efficient boiler. Find out all you need to know about getting your old boiler replaced over on the Electric Ireland website here.
