Ten steps to...

Ten steps to... improve your bedroom overall
A man's bedroom is his sacred space, but sometimes we can let the clutter build up ruining the atmosphere. Here are ten steps to improve your bedroom.
Whether you’re a single man on the prowl or you’re tied down in a loving relationship to a beautiful woman, your bedroom can always to with a bit of improvement. So here are ten tips that will make you (and her) feel more at home.
1) Give your room a good spring clean
It might seem fairly obvious, but giving your bedroom a good spring cleaning will make it look 100 times better – whatever the season. You might not notice the dust and grime build up over a number of weeks, but you’ll definitely notice a difference once it’s gone.
2) Put up some blinds
Net curtains might do a good job at keeping your private life private, but they also do a good job at keeping quite a bit of light out of your room during the day. The more light that enters your room the bigger it will look, so it might be a good idea to buy some blinds and throw out the net curtains. They're easy to put up and it should take less than half an hour.
3) Sort out the lighting
One thing that us men often overlook is the fact that the lighting in our bedrooms is all wrong. If a light bulb goes out we generally just stick in whatever is lying about in a press. However, you should make sure that the light in your bedroom is nice and soft. Try going for a low watt energy saving bulb. You’ll make the room look more intimate, while doing a little for the environment. An energy saving bulb costs less than €10 and takes less than a minute to change.
4) Don’t get floored by flooring
If you’re thinking of getting new flooring in your bedroom, make sure you buy a nice ‘warm’ material. Carpet and wooden floors hold much better heat than tiles or granite. It can be a messy and pricy job, so just keep it in mind.
5) Chose the right colour
Choosing bright paint for your bedroom is a bad idea. Make sure to stick to the more natural 'end of the spectrum' colours, as this will make your bedroom feel more comforting and relaxing. If they're too vivid you'll never get asleep.
6) If you’re on a budget… move things around
If you’re looking to change things up but you’re on a budget, why not just move some things around. Move your bedroom furniture to a different location for that ‘new’ feel. It's a cheap and easy fix.
7) If you’re not on a budget… buy stuff
If you want to spruce up your bedroom and you’ve a few quid to spare then why not buy some extra pillows and a few fancy sheets. For some strange reason, women love their pillows (even if the majority of them end up on the floor), so she’ll surely be happy with that. They shouldn't cost too much and best of all, you only have to throw the pillows on the bed and the job is done.
8) Put up a mirror
A great way to make your room look even bigger is to put up a horizontal mirror at eye level. It will give you a better view of your room, which can come in handy, if you know what we mean...
9) Get rid of the electrics
You’re better off getting rid of everything that doesn’t need to be in your bedroom. That means getting rid of your TV and computer. You should only use your bedroom to sleep in, otherwise you may not be able to unwind properly knowing Facebook is only one click away.
10) Make it your own
The best way to improve your bedroom is to add a bit of personal flare. Whether this means hanging up your Republic of Cork flag on the wall or painting the room your county colours. It’s your room, so make it your own.
