So the Irish under-17s are due to take on Romania in Kumanovo this afternoon, or at least they will if the pitch is marked out in time.

Preparations for today’s game were interrupted when the roller being used to mark the pitch broke down, forcing the authorities to revert to age old methods in an attempt to get all the white lines painted on in time for kick-off.

We can only hope that there was enough power in the car to start the roller up again, from a distance it looks like a late 80s era VW Golf so it could well be on its last legs, but we trust it did the job on this occasion.

As the man who posted the picture in the first place, FAI Development Officer Mark Scanlon said, you really couldn’t make this stuff up.
