We’re getting closer to Saturday night so it’s probably no surprise if you see around 30 pints of Guinness when looking at the picture above. The reality is a little bit different.

As you will well know, gridiron has come to Dublin this weekend with the arrival of Notre Dame and Navy to play an historic College American Football game at the Aviva Stadium, while Aran jumpers and pints of Guinness are said to be doing a roaring trade in the capital with the arrival of an estimated 35,000 Americans into the city.

If the tourists’ appetite for a pint wasn’t already whetted, it certainly would have been for the occupants of the loftier seats at Lansdowne Road because, maybe it’s just us, but an aerial snapshot of the Navy Shipmen on the field - clad in immaculate black uniforms with white hats - before the game commenced makes them look remarkably like numerous pints of the black stuff.

As we pointed out already, the closer it gets to Saturday night, the thirstier we’re getting so maybe we’re completely off the mark, but have a look at the picture above and see if you share our judgment.

It’s certainly one of the tastier optical illusions we’ve come across in quite a while in any case.
