There’s a good picture in a few places including RTÉ that’s been doing the rounds since the Paralympics homecoming last night.

Minister of State for Sport Michael Ring, a man not shy of looking for publicity, was sitting next to Paralympic hero Jason Smyth when the pic was snapped.

Derry’s Smyth, who won gold in his 100m and 200m event, couldn’t look in greater contrast to the exuberant Ring sitting next to him.

In fairness given the long two weeks he’s had and the couple months off the TDs have had, Smyth wouldn’t be begrudged being let home for a few hours kip prior to any sort of reception to celebrate his and Team Ireland’s remarkable feats over the last few weeks... and god love Michael but he can be a bit much at times!
