JOE's 5 for the Weekend

27/01/2012 11:59 am

The time has finally come. After weeks and months of waiting, cinemagoers will finally get to see Liam Neeson punch a wolf in the face this weekend.

Liam Neeson gets lost in the woods in The Grey

Liam Neeson has made a career out of punching people and/or things, so we can't wait to watch him dish out some pain to a pack of wolves in this weekend's survival drama The Grey. The film sees Neeson as part of an oil drilling team that struggles to survive after a plane crash leaves them stranded in the wild. Hunting the humans is a pack of wolves who see them as intruders.

Armed with little more than mini bar beer bottles taped to his knuckles, Neeson appears ready to throw down against his fierce foes by the end of the film's trailer, so we're already sold. Neeson vs a pack of wolves? Hardly a fair fight - at least let the wolves bring a bear or two.

Watch an acting masterclass in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy

After receiving the kind of critical adulation that would make even the Coen Brothers blush, British spy drama Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy finally arrives on Blu-ray and DVD. It's a particularly canny release date, as the distributors were keenly aware that the film would likely receive Oscar nominations just days prior to its release.

Though the pace of the film may not be to everyone's tastes, it's an immaculately crafted effort with a central performance from Gary Oldman that's extremely worthy of this week's deserved Oscar nod.

Take a seat for Ryan Gosling's unstoppable performance in Drive

If you haven't seen the incredible Drive yet, all you need to know is that JOE proclaimed it to be our favourite movie of 2011. Finally, the action drama hits Blu-ray and DVD this week so sit back, relax and prepare for one of the hippest, most unflinching and downright unmissable films to come out of Hollywood in many years.

Hide behind your Nintendo 3DS for Resident Evil Revelations

It's been about four weeks since we've seen a major video game release but one has finally arrived in the form of Resident Evil Revelations, a back-to-basics survival horror title with the best graphics on Nintendo's handheld.

Though much of Resi fans' attention has been grabbed by the debut trailer for Resident Evil 6 in recent days, we can't wait to get our hands on this release first. Look out for our review later on next week.

Relive a classic movie with our Cult Film of the Week

This week’s Cult Classic film is The King of Kong, the best documentary centred around the arcade video game Donkey Kong since... ever. Trust us, even if you're not a gamer, it's incredibly compelling stuff. If you haven’t already, we’d certainly advise you to make your way over to the Jameson Cult Film Club website to check out what the folks over there also recommend.
