Phil Neville’s dive during the Merseyside derby today was so bad that even his brother Gary couldn’t defend it. He p*ssed himself laughing instead.
Diving proved to be something of a theme during an enthralling Merseyside derby this afternoon. Having taken exception to David Moyes’ pre-game comments about his reputation for simulation, Luis Suarez celebrated the opening goal by diving theatrically in front of the Everton manager, which, surprisingly, wasn’t even the worst dive of the afternoon.
That honour went to Everton skipper Phil Neville, who was guilty of a farcical dive under little pressure from Daniel Agger in the first half and was deservedly booked for his efforts.
One might have expected Gary to stick up for his younger sibling, but having watched it himself, Gary gave a very different reaction in the Sky studio at half-time (see photo below), a reaction which began doing the rounds on Twitter fairly quickly afterwards and pretty much summed up how bad it was.

Priceless.
Hat tip to Vincent Bradley for this one.
