JOE’s 5 for the Weekend
This week’s 5 for the Weekend features a whole host of sport along with the release of what’s probably the most anticipated movie of the year.
Get the wellies out for this weekend’s music festivals
You’re going to have to make a big decision this weekend. Are you going to head to Offaly or Cork for your festival fix? Indiependence takes place in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork (where they make the cheese) and it promises some of the best Irish and international talent around. It was nominated for the Best Small Festival at last year’s European Awards so you know it’s going to be money well spent.
Castlepalooza on the other hand takes place in Tullamore, Co. Offaly this weekend. Like Indiependance, Castlepalooza has been welcoming festival goers since 2006 and has been nominated for an array of industry awards. With a similarly suitably stellar line up to and plenty to see and do, Castlepalooza has earned a reputation as one of Ireland’s finest festivals and it’s a bloody bargain too! So check out their respective websites and decide if you’re off to Cork or Offaly.
Split your sides laughing with ‘Ted’
So what’s this Ted movie all about? Well, Mark Wahlberg (who has starred in everything from The Other Guys to The Departed), plays John, a perfectly normal Boston native whose childhood wish for his teddy bear to come to life comes true.
Ted remains John’s best friend well into his adult years, but conflict emerges when Ted’s irresponsible and vulgar slacker lifestyle comes in the way of John’s attempt to embrace his adulthood and his missus, Lori (Mila Kunis). If you like Family Guy/American Dad/The other spin-off that never really took off, then you’re going to love this.
Suit up for the Galway Races
The Galway Races will be taking place of the course of the weekend so make sure you suit up for the event. Everyone will be wearing their Sunday best and the women will be out to impress with their oversized hats and whatnot. If you’re planning on heading along then make sure to check out the Galway Races website for everything that you could need to know about the event.
Kick back with the All-Ireland Senior Championship Quarter finals
This Saturday will see Mayo take on Down in the first of four All-Ireland Football Senior Championship Quarter finals. The match kicks off in Croker at 5pm. If you hang around until 7pm you can catch Dublin vs. Laois in their quarter final match up.
Sunday will also see two All-Ireland Football Senior Championship Quarter finals taking place. The first will see Cork taking on Kildare while the late match will see Donegal taking on Kerry. Donegal vs. Kerry has been tipped to be a good match so stick a few quid on Donegal, for the odds (we want a share if you win), and enjoy.
Relive a classic movie with our Cult Film of the Week
This week’s Cult Classic film is Silence of the Lambs, a film that will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. It might also give you a craving for some fava beans.
If you haven’t already, we’d certainly advise you to make your way over to the Jameson Cult Film Club website to check out what the folks over there also recommend.
