JOE’s 5 for the Weekend
There’s a good mix of things to do this weekend from sport to music and there’s even a little bit of comedy thrown in too.
Head along to Croker for the Senior Hurling Semi Final
This weekend sees Cork take on Galway in the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Semi-Final at Croke Park. It might be a bit tough to get tickets at this stage, but head along and sure you never know. The Cork-Galway clash will be their first in an All-Ireland semi-final since 1985 when Galway won by 4-12 to 5-5. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out this weekend whether you watch it in the flesh or on TV.
Express your cúpla focal at the Fleadh Cheoil
The annual Fleadh Cheoil takes place this weekend and it runs into next week too, so if you’re feeling all patriotic after Katie Taylor’s gold medal win then head along and speak your cúpla focal. The Fleadh will feature sessions, fun-days, pageants, marching bands, competitions, ceili bands, concerts, singing, busking, exhibitions and the arts are all part of the biggest celebration of Irish culture in the world. It’s being held in Cavan again this year so head over to their website to find out more.
Check out Young Wonder at the Twisted Pepper
Bodytonic Live are bringing the electronic pop duo Young Wonder all the way up from Cork in order to play their the first headline show in The Twisted Pepper, Dublin. If you haven’t already we’d strongly advise you to check them out, and with that in mind we’ve decided to add a video below so you can do just that. Doors open at 8pm and tickets on the night are between €8 and €10. A bargain for the show you’ll get.
Have a laugh with Eric Lalor at the Laughter Lounge
Eric Lalor is one of the country’s best comedians and thankfully he’s playing at the Laughter Lounge this weekend (Friday 10, Saturday 11). Eric will be on stage to tickle your funny bone along with Michael Mee, Gerry McBride and Steve Cummins. If you’re not sure who Eric is then here’s what Des Bishop has to say about him: “He’s getting better all the time, so much so that he’s starting to freak me out”.
Relive a classic movie with our Cult Film of the Week
This week’s Cult Classic film is Arlington Road. A college professor begins to suspect that there’s something not quite right with his neighbour. Something sinister indeed.
If you haven’t already, we’d certainly advise you to make your way over to the Jameson Cult Film Club website to check out what the folks over there also recommend.
