Tonight's telly features the crime drama Good Cop, the US Open tennis, Absence of Malice and the smash hit Wanderlust.

In the first episode of the new series we see a Liverpool policeman called John Paul Rocksavage, known as Sav, and his colleague Andy Stockwell intervene when a gang of men mistreats a waitress at a diner. In an act of retribution, its leader Noel Finch sets up a false call-out and an unsuspecting Stockwell suffers a brutal assault at the hands of the thugs, resulting in his death. Returning to the scene of the crime, a distraught Sav finds a loaded gun concealed under a loose floorboard and when Finch appears he makes a fateful decision. Tune in to find out what it is…
Sporting Pick: US Open tennis, Sky Sports 2, 4pm
Tonight we have the coverage of the fourth day's action at Flushing Meadows in New York, featuring second-round matches in the men's and women's singles. The unseeded Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero and seventh seed Gael Monfils served up the day's most extraordinary match 12 months ago, which ended with Ferrero triumphing 7-6, 5-7, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 to set up a third-round tie against compatriot Marcel Granollers, who defeated Mikhail Kukushkin in his second-round match. In the women's competition, number one seed Caroline Wozniacki eased into round three with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Arantxa Rus, while Serena Williams defeated Michaella Krajicek 6-0, 6-1. Movie Pick: Absence of Malice, RTE1, 11.55pm
Michael Gallagher, the son of an infamous Mafia boss, rejects his family's criminal ways to lead a law-abiding life. When a union leader disappears, a frustrated FBI investigator leaks a story to the press that he intends to question Gallagher, and the hapless businessman finds his life rapidly falling apart in the aftermath of the bad publicity. Sydney Pollack's drama, starring Paul Newman and Sally Field.
