Tonight’s TV: Parks and Recreation, Being Liverpool and The King’s Speech

Chances are it’s going to be a cold one out there this evening, so get the fire on, the feet up and sit back and watch the best that the tellybox has to offer this miserable Wednesday evening.

Main Event: Parks and Recreation, BBC Four, 10pm

BBC Four have been showing episodes from the early days of this excellent US comedy and tonight you can catch up with the first two episodes of the second season, featuring Leslie conducting a mock wedding ceremony for two penguins at a zoo and a suspicious marijuana discovery in the community garden.

Sporting Pick: Being Liverpool, Setanta Ireland, 9.30pm

With all the international football done and dusted last night the sporting calendar is a little bare this evening, but if you haven’t caught it already, Being Liverpool is worth a watch over on Setanta Ireland – it was nominated for an Emmy after all.

Liverpool fans will be keen to see how their club is run behind the scenes while fans of other clubs will no doubt find some amusement in Jamie Carragher’s barely decipherable Scouse accent and Brendan Rodgers’ bordering on inappropriate cheek-slapping of new players arriving at the club.

Movie Pick: The King’s Speech, RTE One, 9.35pm

While the Queen’s speech on Christmas Day can often feel as if it goes on for over two hours, there is thankfully a lot more tat just waffle to this brilliant Oscar-winning drama about a prince’s attempt to fix his stammer before he assumes the throne leading up to the outbreak of World War II.

Colin Firth is excellent as the prince with the speech impediment, as is Geoffrey Rush as the Australian speech therapist whose odd and somewhat out-there methods prove effective and help establish an unlikely relationship between them.
