Tonight’s TV: The Apprentice, Europa League Final and The Simpsons Movie

Because it’s probably going to be pouring down you’ll be glad to know it’s a cracking midweek on the box with The Apprentice, the Europa League Final and The Simpsons Movie.

Main Event: The Apprentice, BBC One, 9pm

One down from last week, the remaining would-be apprentices are tasked with designing a piece of flat-pack furniture in tonight’s episode and as anyone who has been to IKEA in the recent past will know, assembling an already-made piece of flat-pack furniture ain’t easy, never mind coming up with the idea in the first place.

Expect plenty of quibbles as usual, while it might be worth tuning into Dara O’Briain on Apprentice: You’re Fired on BBC 2 if the show itself isn’t good enough to satisfy your Apprentice fix.

Sporting Pick: Europa League Final, Chelsea v Benfica UTV, 7.15pm

Squeezed in between the FA Cup Final last weekend and the final round of Premier League fixtures this weekend, the Europa League Final hasn’t exactly cleared its own space on the football calendar but it promises to be an intriguing contest nonetheless.

In the blue corner in Amsterdam will be last year’s Champions League winners Chelsea while in the red corner will be Benfica, who all but gave up their chance of clinching the Portuguese title in a dramatic defeat to Porto at the weekend.

No matter what the outcome, don’t be surprised if John Terry somehow finds his way into the celebrations.

Movie Pick: The Simpsons Movie, E4, 8pm

Made as it was a long time after the show had passed its peak, The Simpsons Movie doesn’t quite represent the best of what the series had to offer, but it is a more than satisfactory piece of entertainment and eased the fears of long-time fans of the show who feared it would die a death and would represent the final nail in the coffin of Matt Groening’s creation.

Featuring cameos from Tom Hanks, Ed Norton and Green Day alongside the contributions of the regular cast, it’s definitely good for a few laughs if that’s what you’re after of a Wednesday evening.
