Tonight’s TV: The Hit, Live Paralympics, Rise of the Planet of the Apes

Tonight you can sit back and relax with RTE's latest homegrown show 'The Hit', we also have more Paralympic coverage and James Franco stars in Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Main Event: The Hit, RTE Two HD, 9.30pm

The Hit Music competition hosted by Laura Whitmore, in which budding singer-songwriters try to sell their compositions to established stars. Producer Steve Lillywhite, who has worked with the Rolling Stones, the Pogues and U2, selects a shortlist of songs that will then be pitched to Brian McFadden and Royseven, before they have the final word on who the lucky winners are. Sporting Pick: Live Paralympics, Channel 4, 7.30pm

Clare Balding and Ade Adepitan present continuing coverage of the 2012 Paralympics from London, featuring athletics, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair rugby. The men's wheelchair basketball has reached the semi-final stage at the North Greenwich Arena, with Great Britain in action against Canada, and the hosts take on France in the wheelchair rugby qualifiers at the Basketball Arena. If you haven’t seen the wheelchair rugby yet then you have to check it out tonight, as it’s one of the coolest sports featured at the Paralympics.

Movie Pick: Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Sky Premiere, 8pm

A scientist carries out genetic experiments on apes, hoping to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease. A chimpanzee used in the tests develops superior intelligence and becomes outraged at the human race's cruel treatment of his kind, forming his fellow primates into an army to overthrow mankind. Sci-fi thriller, starring James Franco, Freida Pinto and Andy Serkis.
