The best road trip movie ever made? It can’t be far off.
As a decade, the 80s delivered plenty of reasons why it should be forgotten about as soon as possible, but one good thing to come out of that period was a series of John Hughes comedies that have stood the test of the time and are still very watchable today.
Released on this day in 1987, Planes, Trains and Automobiles sits comfortably alongside classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck and Home Alone as some of Hughes’ finest work and we’ve compiled a number of reasons why we can’t wait to watch it all over again 27 years after it first hit cinema screens.
Granted, we don’t have Thanksgiving on this side of the world so it doesn’t touch a chord in quite the same way it does with Americans, but it should still be at the top of the list of the movies you need to watch over the next few weeks to get you in the Christmas spirit.
