Eddie Murphy will star and co-produce a continuation of the movie franchise Beverly Hills Cop for CBS this year. Writer Shawn Ryan (The Shield) will be penning the script for the dramedy show, so it should be good.

But don't expect Murphy to be running around solving crimes just yet. Apparently the pilot will focus on his character, Axel Foley’s son Aaron, played by comedian Brandon T Jackson. Aaron will also be a cop, working Beverly Hills and trying to escape his father’s shadow. Murphy will reprise his role as Foley, although how much screen time he will feature in is still unclear.

Jackson has had roles in Tropic Thunder, Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son and Percy Jackson. Also joining the cast for the hour-long pilot is funnyman Kevin Pollak to star as the in house lawyer, Rodney Daloof, for the Beverly Hills Police Department.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, he will be a stickler to the rules. We can imagine that both Axel Foley and his son will give him a lot of hardship if the series gets picked up. Pollak is a stand up comedian and starred as a Defense Attorney in Shark and alongside Robert De Niro in Casino.

Here’s a clip to remind you why Eddie Murphy was once great, and maybe he will be again (if he’d just stop dressing up as women and in fat suits).
