The greatest moments of Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz

On this day in 1998, one of the best voice actors in the business Phil Hartman, who played Troy McClure and Lionel Hutz, passed away.

Phil Hartman played two of our favourite characters in The Simpsons, and he gave us more than his fair share of laughs with both famous Hollywood actor Troy McClure and the best lawyer in the business Lionel Hutz, so we though we'd remember him today by casting our eye back on some of our favourite moments from his time on the show.

One of the best Twitter accounts out there, Simpsons Quote of the Day, shared this great picture of Lionel Hutz's business card. Works on contingency?

He was a master legal strategist too, there was no case that he couldn't get his client out of with one of his brilliant courtroom tricks, like this one, the ol' surprise witnesses number.

But that wasn't the only trick up his sleeve, he was able to shock and discredit witnesses with his use of facts, and those facts are as follows: He wasn't wearing a tie at all.

We learned everything we ever needed to know about science from Troy McClure and his educational videos, like “Alice doesn't live anymore” and “Two minus three equals negative fun”.

He was also a great man for a song, in particular, he stole the show when he starred in the musical version of Planet of the Apes. We are terribly disappointed that this was never really made.

He also played the eccentric monorail salesman Lyle Lanley, who put Brockway, Ogdenville and North Haverbrook on the map! Get ready to be singing this song all day.
