Apple are expected to launch the iPhone 5 on September 12th at the Yerba Buena Centre for the Arts in San Francisco, with an invite going out to the press tentatively announcing “It’s almost here.”

While no one has confirmed that the press conference is for the new smart phone, it’s widely expected to be the highly anticipated launch of their fifth generation version of the phone. They last released the IPhone 4s in 2010, which was very similar to the 4 with just a few small upgrades.
Naturally enough the blogs are going batshit about what the new phone may entail; rumours are ranging from a considerably larger battery to the aesthetic aspects of the phone. It will run from IOS 6 - the new operating system announced by Apple in June.
It will replace the Google Maps app with their own brand (iMaps?) mapping system; while Facebook integration will be a lot slicker. The screen is also expected to be a much larger with bloggers speculating that it will be 4 inches - to rival HTC and recent Galaxy phones which have both proved market leaders.
The press conference will take place at 6pm Irish time, next Wednesday
