Michael Fassbender to play lead role in Assassins Creed blockbuster
Ireland's Michael Fassbender looks set to take the lead role in the new Assassins Creed blockbuster. Well, at least he has the massive sword already at hand...
Michael Fassbender has shown movie lovers and critics everywhere that he is an extremely versatile actor, playing roles in such movies as Hunger, X-Men: First Class, Shame (the one where he gets his shlong out) and Prometheus, which also starred the South African beauty Charlize Theron. Now he looks set to take a stealthy stab at Assassin’s Creed… but isn’t that a video game?
According to Variety, Fassbender will star in and co-produce the big screen adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin’s Creed.
But what if you haven’t played the game before? What’s it all about? Well, basically, you play a bartender who is kidnapped by a powerful corporation who has links to the historical brotherhood known as The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon (or the Knights Templar).
It turns out that your character in the game comes from a long line of assassins and the big corporation who kidnapped you at the start sends you back in time to retrieve certain historical artefacts. It’s all set around the Crusades so there’s going to be no long distance sniping or Apache helicopters making an appearance in the movie.
"Michael Fassbender was our first choice," said Ubisoft's Jean-Julien Baronnet, calling him "extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed.
Well, lets just hope it’s a tad better than Ubisoft’s previous game turned movie ‘blockbuster’… Prince of Persia. Don't remember it? Exactly.
