Mrs Browns Boys The Movie, really?

Yep, the sitcom we love to hate or hate to love is coming to the big screen, good news? You decide...

Some love her, so hate some hate her, some pretty much don’t care about her at all... No it’s not Grainne Seoige, its Mrs Brown.

Reports in the Irish Independent this morning tell us that Mrs Brown’s Boys the movie is been rolled out and the even better news is that it will be filmed in Dublin.

Movie giants Universal Studios are backing the project and are going to throw around €4.5m at it.

Mrs Browns Boys is throwing back to one liner’s and slap stick sitcom and while that’s not for everyone you have to admit it can make you chuckle. The Movie is to be filmed on Dublin’s Moore St which is fitting as O’Carroll has spoken in the past of the character being based on the hardworking inner city women of his mother’s generation.

Whether you're a fan of O'Carroll's work or not, it’s hard not to be impressed by the success of the show. It began life as a 2FM radio sketch (remember when 2FM was funny... no us either) and moved to books, theatre and finally thanks to the BBC to TV. The Britt’s apparently love it and O’Carroll picked up a Bafta for his comedy creation earlier this year. It’s got pretty mixed reviews this side of the Irish Sea, but for most it’s like eating ice cream in your underpants - a bit of a guilty pleasure.

O’Carroll never gave up on the idea of Mrs Brown despite been shut down for years, which offers those of us who still harbour dreams (special dreams) of getting off with Georgia Salpa some inspiration. So remember, NEVER GIVE UP!!

Random fact : Brendan O’Carroll’s  mother  Maureen was the first female Labour party TD elected to the Dail back in the 50’s, so put that down your table quiz pipe and smoke it. Or just look it up on your iPhone like everyone else.
