British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been arrested in Los Angeles following a scuffle with the paparazzi.

The flamboyant and notoriously randy star of recent Hollywood film Get Him To The Greek was about to board a plane at Los Angeles International Airport when he became involved in an altercation with a photographer.

Brand, 35, is engaged to singer Katy Perry. Brand is believed to have flown to LA in order to celebrate the celeb couple's one year anniversary together.

The couple were about to board a Delta Airways flight to New York when the incident happened.

Shortly after the arrest on Friday Perry gave her take on the incident.

"If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiance will do his job & protect me," she tweeted. The singer had been wearing a short green and white baby doll dress at the time.

LA police confirmed that Brand had been taken into custody for a misdemeanor charge of simple battery after a citizen's arrest by a photographer with bail set at $20,000.
