Seth MacFarlane will host The Oscars

01/10/2012 5:41 pm

There had been rumours for a while that Jimmy Fallon would take the gig, but the network that broadcasts The Oscars, ABC, are the home of recent Emmy Award host, Jimmy Kimmel – who’s a direct timeslot rival of Fallons. Naturally, they didn’t wanna give him a chance to show how brilliant he is to billions of viewers (we prefer Kimmel, but still)

Seth MacFarlane is one of the highest paid men in entertainment. Family Guy is one of Fox’s most popular shows, and he just wrote, directed and starred in the biggest comedy since The HangoverTed. He doesn't need this gig by any means, but he is somewhat of an inspired choice.

The Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences said in a statement: “We are thrilled to have Seth MacFarlane host the Oscars. His performing skills blend perfectly with our ideas for making the show entertaining and fresh,” adding,. “He will be the consummate host, and we are so happy to be working with him.”

“It’s truly an overwhelming privilege to be asked to host the Oscars,” said MacFarlane. “My thoughts upon hearing the news were, one, I will do my utmost to live up to the high standards set forth by my predecessors; and two, I hope they don’t find out I hosted the Charlie Sheen Roast.” Finally The Oscars will be worth watching again after a few awfully shite years in a row.

The 85th Annual Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, February 24th.
