Men are just as bad as women when it comes to weeping over a song

When it comes to music, we’re all just a tad bit…emotional. Chances are there’s at least one song out there that will bring on the waterworks and don’t be looking so smug boys, because men are just as bad as women when it comes to blubbering over a tune.

The Irish Daily Star reports that a massive 70 per cent of men and an unsurprising 90 per cent of women say that a sad song can reduce them to tears in a matter of minutes.

A new survey has found that listening to tear-inducing tracks like Everybody Hurts by R.E.M and I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston can make even the hardest heart crumble a little bit.

The survey was commissioned by David King, a theatrical music producer, to discover more about the power of music and the impact that it can have on human emotion.

The survey spawned a list of the top 10 songs that make people cry. Have a look and see if any of these bad boys will have you reaching for the tissues:

1. Everybody Hurts by R.E.M

2. Candle in the Wind by Elton John

3. The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics

4. I Will Always Love You by Whitney Houston

5. Nothing Compares to You by Sinead O’Connor

6. Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen

7. My Heart Will Go On by Celine Dion

8. Fix You by Coldplay

9. Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks

10. Without You by Harry Nilsson

The poll of the top 10 weepy songs showed that most people broke down at home when listening to a particular song, but another major trigger for musical tears was weddings. However the main catalyst is the power of the song itself.

"If it's the song that gets you, it will get you every time," says King.

What do you think? Is it true? And have these eye-watering songs earned their place in the Top 10 or can you think of something better?
