Sunday Chill-Out Tracks: Matisyahu, Rachel Sermanni and Toby Kaar

With yet another All-Ireland Final on the cards, why not put the feet up before today’s throw-in with JOE’S Sunday Morning Chill-Out Tracks.

Matisyahu – ‘King Without a Crown’

He may look familiar from playing the role of Tzadok in this year’s ‘The Possession’, but Matisyahu is more known for his musical fusion. Blending different musical styles like reggae and hip-hop with Jewish motifs, Matisyahu has gone on to release four albums, three of which reached the US top 20.

‘King Without a Crown’ was first featured on his debut ‘Shake off the Dust…Arise’ in 2004, but was released as a single a year later in support of his second album and major label debut, ‘Youth’.

Rachael Sermanni – ‘Waltz’

Hailing from the Scottish Highlands, Rachael Sermanni has been captivating audiences for a while now with her haunting folk balladry and beautiful voice. With 2 EPs under her belt, she took the plunge and released her debut album ‘Under Mountains’ earlier this month, from which ‘Waltz’ is just one of many excellent tracks.

The Scottish singer-songwriter has been touring extensively in support of her debut album. Having started the Irish leg of her tour in Kilkenny last night, she visits Cork tonight, followed by dates in Portrush, Belfast, Limerick, Dublin (with support from the excellent Ciarán Lenehan) and Galway before finishing up the Irish shows with a gig in the Arts Centre in Wexford.

Toby Kaar – ‘Bread’

It’s a testament to the quality of Toby Kaar’s work and his live performances that his reputation has soared without him having released anything as of yet.

The Cork man’s live shows are usually followed by rave reviews and if you were in Dublin’s Twisted Pepper last night you could have seen it first hand. Not to worry, you can catch him in Róisín Dubh in Galway on October 12 or in The Pavillion in Cork on October 28.
