Main event: Blue Bloods, RTE Two, 9.00pm

Tonight Danny searches for Ricky Russo, the son of former crime boss Happy Jack, who is suspected of killing an off-duty policeman during a diamond robbery. However, Henry suspects the investigation is targeting the wrong man, and decides to see if Happy Jack can shed any more light on the case.

A few episodes in and sadly, we're still waiting for Selleck to twirl his facial fuzz and utter the soon-to-be-historic "I moust-ache you a question' line to a wretched criminal. Maybe tonight's double bill will help us out.

Movie pick: Forrest Gump, Sky1, 9pm

In the immortal words of Robert Downey Jr's character from Tropic Thunder, Tom Hanks decided to not go 'full-on retard' for his Oscar-winning performance in Forrest Gump. "Slow, yes. Retarded, maybe. Braces on his legs. But he charmed the pants off Nixon and won a ping-pong competition."

A comedy drama classic that offers an alternative look at America through three decades, Hanks excels as a simple soul that bumbles his way through a series of bizarre adventures, becoming an American football star and heading off for the Vietnam War.

More TV: Gladiator, ITV2, 11.05pm

The film that launched Russell Crowe's star into the stratosphere and introduced the world to Joaquin Phoenix, Ridley Scott's Gladiator is as perfect as any modern day historical epic can ever hope to be.

Ordered to be put to death along with his family, Crowe's Roman General character Maximus Decimus Meridius escapes his would-be killers and is sold into slavery, only to become a gladiator and seek revenge for the murder of his wife and child. Still as enjoyable, triumphant and quote-worthy as you remember and well worth a look.
