A US remake of The Inbetweeners? The trailer is just as bad as it sounds

After just one ill-advised season of the US remake of Skins, you'd have thought that MTV would have learnt their lesson by now. Sigh... here's the trailer for the US version of The Inbetweeners.

With the class-based mocking of protagonist Will and the caravan trips of the extremely vulgar Jay, The Inbetweeners has always felt like a uniquely British take on teenage life, eschewing US stereotypes of jock bullies and glamourous cheerleaders for a more naturalistic and therefore original approach.

So what happens when you transplant what appears to be the entire first season of the show to a non-descript US high school? Well apparently you keep the original scripts, hire a fat Jay, a Neill with long hair and of course, cheerleaders played by actresses in the early twenties alongside dumb jocks. Take a look here.

Unlike the US version of The Office, which quicky went down its own path after a nearly identical pilot episode to its UK predecessor, it appears as though the US version of The Inbetweeners will mimic its inspiration right to the letter, even for minor aspects such as the colour of Simon's absolute banger of a car.

It all looks like a fairly pointless and clearly inferior endeavour but who knows; perhaps the US arm of MTV is onto a winner for teens across the pond who have never even heard of the original series.

Take a look at the first trailer in the link above and let us know what you think in the comments section below.
