Having been told that his show would be getting the chop, Danny Baker went on air for the last episode of his BBC Radio show this afternoon but he wasn’t about to go down without a fight.
The award-winning Baker was only informed this morning that his afternoon show on BBC London 94.9 was being axed due to budget cuts, but Baker wasn’t about to let sleeping dogs lie when he went on air to deliver his final broadcast.
In a no-holds-barred attack on his former employers, Baker told his listeners: "The show's been cancelled by the BBC. They don't want this any more.
"It's a dirty rotten shame and a rotten way they did it. Nobody phoned me. Apparently they were planning on getting round to telling me.
"I don't want to go; I make no bones about it."
Stephen Fry was amongst the celebrities to criticise BBC for the decision this afternoon, labelling them ‘dickwits’ on Twitter, and considering that the former drinking buddy of Gazza and Chris Evans was voted as Radio Personality of the Year at the Sony Radio awards last year, perhaps he had a point.
Nobody was as vociferous in their criticism as Baker himself, however, and for a taste of what he said, click on the link below.
