Some are still at a loss to explain its massive popularity, but the global domination of Mrs Brown’s Boys is set to continue in Australia.

Following on from the huge success the show has garnered both at home and across the pond, off the scale DVD sales and word of a movie in the making, Mrs Brown herself, or himself, is set to take a tour of the show Down Under after hugely positive reaction since the show debuted on Australian television in June.

Some would say that it’s easy to become a success when you’re up against the likes of Neighbours and Home and Away and in a country where Brian McFadden actually carved out a credible career on the small screen, but according to the Irish Sun, the show has attracted viewing figures of nearly one million per month.

Given the large Irish population Down Under, the tour is bound to do well on Australian soil when Brendan O’Carroll and friends eventually head that way; the show is on tour in the UK until the end of September.

Irish fans pining for more of Mrs Brown, meanwhile, shouldn’t be too aghast as filming on a third series is set to commence at the end of that tour, with further tour dates pencilled in for the Liverpool Echo Arena just before Christmas.

As we said, it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but credit where it’s due after all.

Brendan O’Carroll dressed a granny becoming one of Ireland’s greatest exports – who’d have thunk it?
