Brendan O'Carroll's sitcom Mrs Brown's Boys continued its mind-boggling successful run on British TV screens this weekend as 6.4 million viewers tuned in snubbing UTV's Jonathan Ross Show.
It may be cringeworthy, it may also be lowest common denominator comedy, but it's successful. The show, which moved to Saturday last week because of a scheduling clash, hammered The Jonathan Ross Show by 2 million viewers, even though the chat show host had David Beckham as his top star on Friday night.
O'Carroll, the show's creator, said he was shocked by the news... so were we Brendan, so were we. He told the Irish Daily Star: "We knew there was going to be a scheduling problem, that was the first thing. Then when I heard it was going to be on the same time as Jonathan Ross, I thought 'wow we are going to be hammered on this'
"So those results are not just surprising to me, they are absolutely stunning. That's the biggest figure of the series so far so that's astounding," he added.
The 6.4 million is surprising enough before you take into account on-demand views which could see it rise to well over 8 million.
If your plan was to brave it out until the end of this series then you'll be sorely disappointed. BBC have decided to stay on the populist bandwagon and commissioned a third season.
