Tonight the disappointingly cape-less Science Squad return to our screens, while the eagerly anticipated Euro 2012 quarter-finals finally kick off.
Main Event: The Science Squad, RTÉ One, 7pm
Aoibhinn Ni Shuilleabhain, Kathriona Devereux and Jonathan McCrea turn their attention to the development of innovative methods for improving everyday plastics. They also explore research into genetic diseases, and efforts to manipulate food structures so that fat content is reduced but flavour is increased. That has to be a good thing, right?
Sporting Pick: Euro 2012 Quarter-Final Live: Czech Republic v Portugal, RTÉ Two, 7.00pm
Darragh Maloney presents coverage of the opening quarter-final between the Group A winners and the runners-up in Group B, held at the National Stadium in Warsaw.
The Czechs' tournament got off to a terrible start when they were thrashed 4-1 by Russia, but they recovered from that setback admirably, and victories over Greece and Poland in their next two encounters were enough to see them top Group A. They face a tough task tonight against a Portugal side that qualified from a formidable group also containing table-toppers Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands.
Progression to this stage looked unlikely following a 1-0 loss in their opening match against the Germans, especially as Denmark surprisingly won 1-0 against the Netherlands, who were considered to be contenders to win the tournament. However, a 3-2 win against the Danes preceded a 2-1 victory over the Dutch, ensuring they finished as runners-up. Cristiano Ronaldo was in imperious form last time out so he alone should make this one worth tuning in for.
More TV: 20 Things We Love to Hate about Builders, TV3, 8pm
Justin Ryan and Colin McAllister are joined by a host of celebrities, including Caprice, Linda Barker, Tommy Walsh and Vanessa Feltz, who share their grumbles about domestic workmen.
They discuss issues such as unreasonably hefty quotes, homes being left untidy, wolf whistling, bodged jobs and `cash only' payments.
A Thursday night choice between Cristiano Ronaldo and Vanessa Feltz? It's a difficult one, we grant you. But the great thing is, with a lot of RTE and TV3 shows, many of your favourite programmes are available on UPC's new On Demand service which includes the RTE Player and 3Player, free to all UPC customers.
