TV Pick of the Week: Format Farm - The Takeover

27/08/2012 3:00 pm

This week's TV Pick of the Week takes a look at a struggling Dublin bakery as its employees 'takeover' the business and battle to keep it afloat.

This week’s TV Pick of the Week features a totally new series in the form of Format Farm. But what exactly is it all about? Well, Format Farm will pilot five original Irish TV formats that haven’t been tapped into… yet.

The five in question include ‘The Takeover’, ‘Six in the City’, ‘The Hit’, ‘Baptism of Hire’ and ‘The Love Clinic’. The first to air is our Pick of the Week and it’s called 'The Takeover' (RTÉ 2, Thursday, 9.30pm).

The show was actually developed by Louth-based Toto Productions, and it follows the boss of an ailing bakery in Dublin, Tea Time Express, as he steps aside for two weeks while his employees take over in a bid to revive the business.

With the help of Norah Casey (from the Irish Dragons Den), the employees learn about the tough realities of leading and marketing a business as they try to achieve results and ensure a future for the company.

If you’ve ever thought your boss just sits behind a desk twiddling their thumbs for a living then you might want to watch this and see what they actually have to deal with on a daily basis.

Make sure to tune in on Thursday for The Takeover, but don't worry too much if you miss it as you'll be able to catch it again later on in the week on the RTE Player, which is now available for free to all UPC customers on UPC’s new On Demand service.
