Boardwalk Empire doesn’t seem like the type of show that would suit a Sesame Street parody, but they do a pretty good job of it nonetheless.
The third season of the Emmy-award winning series, based in prohibition era Atlantic City, returned to US screens and to Sky Atlantic at the weekend and the folks at Sesame Street capitalised on the heightened interest in the antics of Nucky Thompson and company with a charming little send-up of the show, appropriately titled Birdwalk Empire.
All the main characters are featured in the clip, or at least referenced, from Nucky Ducky Thompson and his wingman Mallard Capone to Clucky Luciano, while the Sesame Street recreation of the show’s opening sequence is quite brilliant.
The clip manages to be funny without ever venturing into some of the darker elements of the show which, fans will attest, wouldn’t be quite suitable for Sesame Street’s regular audience.
