Twitter went into meltdown as House of Cards season 3 appeared on Netflix and then vanished

What just happened?

The internet exploded tonight as 10 episodes of season 3 of House of Cards became available on Netflix. The season wasn't supposed to premiere until February 27, but somehow it became available and people freaked out.
