Men of the Day: The Poznan Peacekeepers

As yet they’re known to us only as Matt and Murph, and there are a few who suggest their bravery owed more to Photoshop than anything else, but whatever the real story we’re saluting those two lads as joint-winners of today’s Euro 2012 Man of the Day.

Had you told us that, after dishing out this lucrative award to match-winners Alan “The Young Fella” Dzagoev and Mario Gomez on the first two days of the tournament, we would be giving it jointly to two Irishmen for Day 3 we would have been looking forward to a brilliant performance by the boys in green in Poznan.

Things didn’t exactly work out that way, but there will be enough said and written about events on the field for the rest of the day. For now, through, we’re picking out Matt and Murph’s escapades in the city on Saturday night for this accolade.

We posted their Father Ted-inspired picture on Facebook on Sunday afternoon and it quickly went viral, with more than 2000 likes and 500 shares as of this morning.

Some commenters over there there suggested the pic was photoshopped, although another photo of one of the pair alongside Polish riot police suggests that may not be the case.

Either way, Matt and Murph, we salute you, our Euro 2012 Men of the Day.
