If you are driving to Euro 2012, here’s some important stuff you should know, courtesy of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
If you are heading off to the Euros in a campervan in the next day or two, firstly we couldn’t be more jealous. Secondly, we hope you have packed your passport.
According to a report in today’s Irish Independent, the lads in the Department of Foreign Affairs have some very important advice for you.
Like most European countries, Poland abolished border controls for EU passport holders back in 1997 so if you have driven there before, you won’t have been held up too long.
However, for the Euros, the passport controls are back so you must show a valid passport to gain entry. Same rules apply if you are travelling by train so whatever you do, make sure you pack your passport in with your inflatable hammer. And expect delays, possibly very long ones.
The Department also had another warning for you if you are driving; be careful. They have advised that fatal road accidents are “very common” in Poland. To back up the point, over the recent May Bank Holiday in Poland, 65 people died on Polish roads, while 5,000 were arrested for drink driving.
