Reports from a couple of the papers this morning are saying that Arsenal club captain, Thomas Vermaelen is set to join Manchester United in a £10m deal.

Both the Independent and Telegraph across the water are saying that Vermaelan, who is in Brazil with Belgium, is set to depart the Emirates and join the Louis van Gaal revolution at Old Trafford.

Vermaelen has the same agent as Robin van Persie and only has a year left on his Arsenal contract. He currently earns £70k a week, but United are offering him £100k.

Vermaelen, known as ‘The Verminator’ by the Arsenal fans has fallen out of favour at the Emirates. He became club captain after a string of commanding performances at the heart of the Arsenal defence, but in recent times he has been on the bench due to the form of Mertesacker and Koscielny.

United fans will be hoping that he finds the form of old if he does make the move.
