By the looks of it there were a few running battles between fans and riot police ahead of Ireland’s Euro 2012 meeting with Croatia on Sunday, but at least one video paints Irish supporters in a positive light.
A couple of dozen riot police found themselves targeted by glass bottles and flaming missiles as they tried to stifle some trouble on one of Poznan’s main square on Sunday afternoon.
But even as the incident got to its most violent Irish fans were notably not involved in the antagonism – with one man in an Irish shirt even standing alongside the riot police with his hand in the air in an apparent attempt to diffuse the situation.
While he was blessed not to find himself caught in the crossfire, it underlined the peace-loving aims of all Irish fans. Best in the world? You betcha.
