Spain are so good they don't even need to go off the beer

Spain are on the quest to become the first team to win three successive international tournaments – and it looks like they’re not even worried about keeping the cerveza out of reach.

Xabi Alonso, the scorer of both goals on his 100th international appearance against France on Saturday, was pictured with a nice bottle of Cruzcampo during a Spanish press conference earlier.

We reckon all Spanish beer comes from the same vat. Cruzcampo, San Miguel and Estrella Damm all give off the same slightly rancid smell, and are only purchased in their dozens by pasty-skinned Irishmen because (a) they’re cheap and (b) the weather is hot.

This particular piece of product placement probably owes plenty to Cruzcampo’s status as a sponsor, but having a bottle of suds beside one of your team’s star men surely sends out the wrong message, no?

Still, at least the Spaniards weren’t as bad as the Irish rugby team, six of whom were drunk against New Zealand on Saturday. Or so a couple of the UK’s finest thought on Saturday night...
