What the fork? Irish women look set to fork themselves silly
A new French book has revealed that the answer to the perennial question of dieting is to fork yourself thin. 'Le forking' looks set to move to these shores as the next fad diet.

A new French book has revealed that the answer to the perennial question of dieting is to fork yourself thin. 'Le forking' looks set to move to these shores as the next fad diet.

Irish women aren't afraid to embrace the odd fad diet in a hope to shed some unwanted pounds, or even stone. In fact, us men are getting in on the action more and more.

However, this diet isn't as fad-like as it would initially seem. The whole concept says that the dieter should only eat things that can be eaten with a fork. No Knives or spoons are allowed, because apparently they're what's needed to eat the more fatty foods.

The book's author, nutritionist Dr Jean-Michel Borys, says people should only let food past your lips if you've used a fork to get it there.

He got the idea from a French entrepreneur, Ivan Gavriloff, who told Dr Borys that fingering food was not allowed either. So, that's cheeseburger, chips and sandwiches out.

Another upside is the amount of effort that goes into it. It slows down eating and allows your brain to tell you you're stomach is full before stuffing yourself silly.

Dr Borys is a complete food Nazi, though, he says: "If you're invited to a dinner, you should accept. It's difficult to eat foie gras with a fork so if you're at a party, just go ahead like your friends."

Apparently, there's two types of forking, strict and soft. We imagine the strict version is the food world equivalent of BDSM pornography.

The diet has been tried by 500 people and on average they lost 1.5 kilograms a month.
