The five best Champions League goals this season

28/05/2011 7:00 am

One of the best things about the end of the season (well, probably the only thing) is recapping on the wonder strikes over the last few months. Here's our top five goals of the 2010/11 Champions League.

1. Dejan Stankovic - Inter Milan v Schalke

Did the thrashing Inter got from a mediocre Bundesliga side in the quarter-finals take anything away from this outstanding goal? Not one bit. And Manuel Neuer's clearance wasn't even that bad.

2. Lionel Messi - Barcelona v Arsenal

This moment of magic from Messi is right up there with some of his greatest work. A sublime and unimaginable piece of trickery leaves Almunia helplessly flapping about. Shocking defence from the Gunners in the build-up by the way.

3. Eran Zahavi - Hapoel Tel Aviv v Lyon

We don't recommend you buy this guy on Football Manager. This was a once off, but a well deserved inclusion in our top five nonetheless. One to tell the grandkids about.

4. Thomas Muller - Bayern Munich v Roma

The German international has built a reputation for scoring important and sometimes magnificent goals. This one against Roma was more than a bit special.

5. Peter Crouch - Ac Milan v Tottenham

This goal just snook into our top five. Some may dispute its worthiness but it gets in here for the sheer speed of Aaron Lennon alone.
