John Terry hits back at those who still slag him off for his full kit celebration in 2012

It might be the most photoshopped celebration in history but John Terry has no regrets about donning the kit to celebrate Chelsea's Champions League win.

It might be the most photoshopped celebration in history but John Terry has no regrets about donning the kit to celebrate Chelsea’s Champions League win.

At the time, it looked odd. John Terry, despite being suspended for the final, was there in his full Chelsea kit when his team-mates picked up the 2012 Champions League after a stunning defeat of Bayern Munich. Immediately it was contrasted with the likes of Roy Keane and Paul Scholes soberly wearing suits when they were in the same boat in 1999 and then the image became the photoshop sensation of the year.

Terry in full kit was photoshopped into virtually every major news event from that point on, from weddings to All Ireland finals. The frequency of the meme has slowed, but only marginally and we reckon we will be seeing Terry shopped into images for as long as the internet exists.

Now, over two years after it started, the man himself has finally spoken about it.

Talking to the Telegraph in the aftermath of his 100th Champions League game on Tuesday, Terry said:

“The biggest night ever for the club and I didn’t play in it. But I played in one [final in 2008], and I felt a massive part of it [in 2012], and the players made me feel a huge part of it. Along the way you look back at games, like the Napoli game [in the last 16] and other games along the way where you played a big part as well.

“Because it’s me, people look and say ‘he’s not won it’, people like to have their digs and their pops, but I know I played a huge part along the way, in the dressing room and on the field as well, so I count myself to have won it.

“No one speaks about the other 10 players who weren’t on the pitch that night as well. Maybe that’s me and that’s where I am at as a player.”

Indeed John, indeed…
