The controversial Paolo Di Canio is a very complicated man and an interesting character, but bloody hell could he hit a sweet volley.
By Adrian Collins
Paolo Di Canio is one of the most charismatic and exciting players to ever play, and has taken to management like a duck to water. A duck that occasionally punches the other ducks in the pond, but still, the analogy holds we feel.
He's a controversial character to say the least, sometimes great, like when he gave the ultimate display of sportsmanship by catching the ball at Goodison Park with keeper Paul Gerrard down injured and the empty net at his mercy. Sometimes he’s not so great, like when he pushed referee Paul Alcock against Arsenal in 1998, and saw a lengthy ban for his troubles.
This is definitely an example of his being great though, with this absolutely class volley against Wimbledon that is truly unforgettable.
It won goal of the season that year, and has gotten a fair few awards as best goal in the history of the Premiership, without doubt making it one of our favourites here at JOE.
