This is the tackle that could have ended the professional career of Ireland striker Shane Long. (And we don't think we're exaggerating.)
It was that bad a tackle. Watch closely, and ask yourself the question: what would have happened if Shane Long’s right leg had been planted on the ground at precisely the point of contact? We’d hazard a guess at something approaching leg-snapping agony.
In a way, Long was lucky to be able to get to his feet in time to be kicked yet again by Hutton a minute or so later, before he eventually limped out of the action with just 20 minutes gone.
“I don’t think there was anything wrong with the tackle, it was a 50-50 ball and both players were committed as one another,” said whichever short-sighted commentator was on duty for the BBC on Saturday.
Decide for yourself.
The full Match of the Day highlights are available over on Daily Motion, but if you really want to see that video, why not watch it right here? (It improves our dwell time statistics. Thanks.)
