‘Arry admits Modric could be lured by City’s big bucks

He just about managed to hold on to him this season, but Harry Redknapp fears that Luka Modric will leave White Hart Lane in the summer.

Modric openly flirted with the idea of joining Chelsea last summer, but was persuaded to stay at Spurs and has been influential in what was a cracking season for the Spuds until their mini-meltdown in recent weeks.

With all the signs pointing to a big Chelsea spending spree in the summer, the Blues could come calling once again, while Man City boss Roberto Mancini has none too subtly declared his interest in the diminutive Croatian in recent weeks.

Barring a miracle between now and the end of the season, City will be able to promise Modric Champions League football next term as well as a wage packet that could amount to four times Modric’s current salary of £50,000 a week.

‘Arry claims he is desperate to hold onto Modric (he could well be in the England hotseat come summertime anyway), but realises that he can do little to stop him if the Premier League heavyweights come calling.

"I would think if someone is going to offer him £200,000 a week it could probably turn his head a little, yes,” Redknapp said only half-sarcastically when asked about his midfield general.

"Only Luka knows what he wants to do with his life," ‘Arry added.

"We want to keep him here. We need to keep him. We love him. He is a fantastic player."

Modric hasn’t exactly committed his future to Spurs so there would appear to be a greater chance of him leaving rather than staying after this season.

Let’s just hope that the confusion surrounding his future leads to a rotten performance against the Boys in Green come the Euro 2012 opener in June.
