Audio: Phil Brown has a word for Andrea Pirlo’s insistence on playing in Serie A. It’s the wrong word

How good is the Premier League? Well, you would want to be a homophobe not to want to play there, according to Phil Brown.

The majesty of Andrea Pirlo has been much discussed since he put on a master class against England on Sunday. We have marvelled at his penalty, and at the man himself, but others are suspicious of him.

Phil Brown is one of those. The former Hull boss is another one who believes the Premier League is the pinnacle of world football and anyone who spends their entire career in Serie A or La Liga, well, they must be a bit odd.

Perma-tanned Brown tried to express this on a radio interview yesterday but rather than accusing Andrea Pirlo of being a homebird or some other phrase meaning ‘happy where I am thanks’ he used the word ‘homophobic’.

If he had mentioned Antonio Cassano he would have been closer to the mark but instead he has produced the funniest bit of radio we have heard in a long while.

Enjoy.
