AVB rejects South American managerial offer

While rumours continue to persist that Andre Villas-Boas may take the reins at White Hart Lane, we now know of at least one club where he will not be taking charge this summer.

Though the former Chelsea manager has publicly distanced himself from the vacant managerial role at Spurs, he has apparently turned down an offer from the director of Sao Paulo.

Despite the obvious lack of a language barrier at Sao Paulo, AVB appears to be content on staying Europe, as the Brazilian side's director Adalberto Baptista has confirmed that the young manager gave the club the cold shoulder.

"He said today that he would not accept our offer," Baptista told Globoesporte. "He wanted some time to plan things, and I do not have time to wait.

"It is hard to sign a foreign coach. By the time he gets things going, the ship has sunk already. In Brazil, you have to win the next match. Now, we are going to war, I am looking for a new coach.

"It was time for Leao [former Sao Paulo boss Emerson Leao] to leave. Until we find a new coach, Milton Cruz will be a temporary solution."

Despite being the odds-on favourite for the hotseat at Tottenham Hotspur following the surprise departure of Harry Redknapp earlier this month, Villas-Boas last week dismissed recent reports linking him to the role, telling Portuguese newspaper O Jogo: "There is nothing, it is all lies."
