Celtic are on the verge of handing their skipper a bumper pay rise in a bid to fend off the amorous attentions of Newcastle United.
Newcastle are believed to have been preparing a €7m raid on Scott Brown but Hoops bosses are convinced they can hang onto their man by improving on his current contract, set to run out in a year.
The Scottish international is believed to be hopeful of continuing his tenure as long as Celtic also hang onto manager Neil Lennon.
The Sun is pretending it has spoken to a ‘close friend’ of the player and that the mystery individual said: “Scott knows he could go down south and get a lot of money. But the fact is he’s absolutely loved it under Neil. He’s also made it clear he is the only man right for the job at this moment in time.”
“Scott is happy in Glasgow and enjoying his football.”
