Cesc Fabregas saga finally over as Spaniard undergoes Barcelona medical

One of the longest-running transfer sagas in recent memory is finally coming to a close, with Cesc Fabregas hours away from his unveiling as a Barcelona signing.

Fabregas is currently undergoing a medical at Barcelona, which is due to be completed by 11:30am, while the player is to be unveiled to the world's press at noon. The deal is thought to be worth £29m plus an additional £6m in variables.

The Spaniard's return to his home town side is all but complete after Arsenal agreed to sell their skipper late last night, telling fans on their official website that it was not a decision that was taken lightly.

"We have been clear that we didn't want Cesc to leave and that remains the case," said boss Arsene Wenger in a club statement.

"However, we understand Cesc's desire to move to his home town club and have now accepted an offer from Barcelona. We thank Cesc for his contribution at Arsenal and wish him future success."

It is thought that Fabregas may even make his Barcelona debut during Wednesday night's Supercopa second leg against Real Madrid at the Camp Nou. Barcelona drew 2-2 last night in a barnstorming first leg, while manager Pep Guardiola told reporters that it's possible that Cesc may make an appearence.

"Tomorrow [Monday], we will present him and then we will see if he plays on Wednesday," he said post-match last night.
