Could Nani be on his way out of United after training ground punch-up?
Nani’s future at Manchester United has seemed uncertain for some time and an alleged training ground bust-up may just seal his exit from the club.
According to a report in The Daily Mail, the Portuguese winger hit out at reserve player Davide Petrucci in the gym at Carrington after tempers flared over a challenge involving the two in training.
There has been no official acknowledgement of the incident from the club, but United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is believed to have been livid at what happened and could be further convinced to get rid of the wildly unpredictable winger having toyed with the idea of selling him to Zenit St. Petersburg in the summer.
Huge wage demands are believed to have been what stopped the move going through, but with his contract up at the end of next season, United may look to offload him as opposed to losing him for free next summer.
After some encouraging displays at the Euros, Nani has been involved in the majority of United’s games so far this season but has struggled for form and was responsible for one of the worst penalties ever seen at Old Trafford in the nervy Champions League win over Galatasaray lately.
He is expected to feature at some stage against Spurs this evening, but only because of injury concerns over Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, both of whom should be fit to play again sooner rather than later.
Given Fergie’s capacity for keeping things under wraps, the actual details of what did or didn’t happen may never come to light, but it will be interesting to see whether or not he uses Nani at Old Trafford later today and whether anyone has the balls to ask him about it afterwards.
